#WallOfFame - The Whythouse
Ayy guys, @nittyb_ here!
I'm back this afternoon on the blog to for another #WallOfFame spotlight segment. Today on the show is the first time I've wrote about an artist that isn't a rapper. In fact it's not just one individual I'm writing about, it's actually a group who call themselves The Whythouse. Not only is it a group but they're signed to the label RBI Music Group, and they also call Canada their home. Now I know what your thinking, I have a special place for Canada in my heart. My best friend went to school in Vancouver at UBC, and I was one signature away from going to Algonquin College in Ottawa. In fact my best friend still travels to Vancouver and this other major place people call Toronto. Toronto aka the 6 is where this Urban Pop group resides and I'm intrigued to see what makes this pop band stand out from the others. One thing is forsure about the great city of Toronto is there are plenty of rappers trying to follow the footsteps of Drake himself.
In Canada, there are plenty of other artist who aren't rappers who would love to carve out their own lane in the Toronto music scene, and this group is certainly trying to accomplish just that taking on the label of Canada's Urban Pop Pioneers. Now if your intrigued in different genres of music like I am you would have somewhat an understanding of what direction this pop group is headed in. Pop music is short for popular and at times I have to remind myself that because it's easy to get caught up putting a band in a box that you miss the message the music is putting together. At first listen this may not be your cup of tea but towards the end you'll start to like it more and more which makes sense since that's usually how pop records work for me. As I take a look at their discography the first record I run across is titled, "Dream Away". From the jump you notice a heavy dance hall influence and it's pretty easy to understand what direction they want the listener to take. With the catchy beat and lyrics, this song will catch your attention and make you think about the sounds that are currently being played. Especially if your not use to listening to pop music. Now credit I'm not much of a dance hall or pop genre listener, but I do know the significant effort it takes not only to make a pop song but to have it sound good. Another track I took a listen to is their latest single, "Slow Motion". The one cool thing about art is you can either find your sound and run with or you can be versatile while doing different styles of music. That's exactly what you get when you listen to these two track back to back. While one song might sound like a dance hall track Drake could soon be sampling for his next project, the next one sounds like it came straight out of the heart of Texas with some flavor added in. Slow Motion is definitely my favorite not only because of the beat and the cool trap hats, the chill rap towards the end, but also because it reminds me of being back home on the ranch with my family. I guess you can say I have a little southern biased brewing up in me. While we wait and see what's next from the Whythouse we will continue to expect nothing less but the best from Canada's Urban Pop Pioneers! Make sure you guys head over to RBI's page on YouTube and check out their latest video, it's really dope or check it out on the link below. With over 20,000 monthly listeners on spotify I'm intrigued to see what moves this band has for us next.
Until next time guys, I'm out!
